Peter's (and Thorin's) Portraits at Libby Hill Park | Richmond Portrait Photographer

If you’ve been on the fence about getting photos taken with your four-legged companion, consider this your sign to take the plunge! Peter and Thorin’s portrait session was an absolute delight (despite the grueling Virginia summer heat) and the results are adorable.

We chose Libby Hill Park as our backdrop, with its cascading fountains and city overlook. Thorin looked particularly charming in his rainbow bandana, which Peter thoughtfully brought along for the occasion. 🌈

Here are some essential tips for making your pet’s photoshoot go smoothly and capturing those perfect moments:

  • Bring Water: Pets can get overheated quickly, so it’s crucial to keep them hydrated. Peter came prepared with plenty of water for Thorin, ensuring he stayed comfortable throughout the session.

  • Treats and Toys: Bringing treats is a must to keep your pet’s attention and encourage them to look at the camera. A squeaky toy can also help in getting their attention and capturing those lively expressions.

  • Leash Considerations: Use a neutral-colored leash or one that coordinates with your outfit to keep the focus on your pet and not the gear. This small detail can make a big difference in the final images.

  • Pet-Friendly Location: Make sure the location you choose is pet-friendly and allows for some exploration and movement. Libby Hill Park was perfect for this, providing a great mix of scenic views and open space.

  • Plan for a Shorter Session: Pets, especially dogs, can get tired or overstimulated during a photoshoot. Plan for a shorter session to keep them engaged and happy. Allow time for play and relaxation to make the experience enjoyable for both your pet and yourself.

Peter and Thorin’s session was a beautiful example of how much fun and connection can be captured when you include your furry friends. I love being a Richmond portrait photographer! If you're interested in scheduling a session, click here.
